Asjaolu, et elektrijaam tarbib ise taastuvatest energiaallikatest toodetud energiat, ei vähenda antud energia tootmismaksumust ega seeläbi toetusvajadust. Omatarbe toetuse puudumine tekitab tehisliku olukorra, kus jaam on sunnitud kogu toodetud energia ära müüma ning siis omatarbeks kuluva osa võrgust tagasi ostma.
