I was eleven years old and I just sat down at the dinner table. For years I wondered what I did. How did I make this woman so mad at me? Why did she hate me? For years I lived with these unanswered questions. Then one day I overheard someone talki.

I feel the same frustration that many of my transgendered friends feel when they are questioned about their gender because we live in a society that expects people to fit in a box where everything should match up perfectly. People of all races come in all the colors of the rainbow and should never be treated as such.

Here are some basic key points you should know if you hope to be an ally to the transgender community, or even just to the transgender person in your life who may have recently come out. Keep these in mind when talking to us and about us. Our identities now are as real as it gets.
