Ruminations of a recently qualified archivist trying to make it in Éire. Friday, May 13, 2011. Oral histories collected from members of the IRA and paramilitary loyalist groups in the 1990s have been subpoenaed by the UK. These histories are held in Boston and are supposed to be sealed for 30 years. The possible release of these tapes could be a huge roadblock to future oral history efforts, and creates questions about how much secrecy archivists can promise to interviewees.

Is a new play written by Bernard Field and currently being staged at the Town Hall Theatre, Galway and will be travelling to the New Theatre, TempleBar, Dublin in May 2012. It is the story of Ludwig, a now elderly German man who in his younger days was a trained doctor and also a member of the Nazi Party and later a camp guard in the death-ground that was Auschwitz.
