Deze spoelde levenloos aan op de dijk bij Den Helder. Een andere soortgenoot leefde nog toen deze gevonden werd maar overleed later op weg naar het plaatselijke vogelasiel. De afgelopen twintig jaar zijn er twee eerdere meldingen van papegaaiduikers in deze omgeving geweest.
