Saturday, August 15, 2015. Grass trees are one of my favourite native plants. I find them structurally fascinating. They are like grass growing on trees. The grass is sometimes clumpy and other times flowy. They can have a tall or short trunk, one or two heads. Flowers of grass trees appear out of the skirt of grass as long cylindrical spikes. After bush fires, grass tree flowers are often the first to appear, ensuring a food source for many insects and birds. All forms and all shapes.
