The resident responsible for the page regretted to tell me that the vascular attending had accepted the transfer of a patient with a ruptured AAA. Yeah That and the fact.

I have an elderly patient at the end of her life. Sometimes, medical paternalism is nice. Sometimes, I really want to tell this wonderful person that I know what to do, and that I know the right answer.

As I near the end of my residency and the realization of what the real world is actually like comes crashing down around me I find myself losing control of the small amount of restraint I have ever had of my unbridled anger.
