Our model for learning about Nature firsthand. The weather has really got me down lately, or rather the lack of different weather like rain. Each morning for the past few months, I have awakened, opened my blinds, and been actually depressed to see sunshine an a cloudless blue sky. Reflections on joint replacement surgery, aging, and life in general. My path to being the joint replacement queen was a walk on a treadmill, not a road. In the spring of 1998 my friend Liz and I were preparing to hike in the Alps. I spent a lot of time going up and down imaginary hills on a treadmill. The result was a recurring deep ache in my right hip that disappeared as soon as the trip to Switzerland was completed. And I hurt so much I could not wait.
