Over himself, over his body and mind, the individual is sovereign. A year ago, I sat at a lecture, organised by the Cuffy 250 Committee, where a series of questions about the state of African Guyanese communities were raised. The questions mostly concerned marginalisation, unemployment and inequitable policies. They were not particularly new but recurring, as are the ongoing struggles identified in black communities. We should be having regular conversations across our country.
