Another thing which could be helpful, is th advice that the author gives about not using the passive voice. I use it all of the time because I think it sounds good at that time. Also, the list of strong active verbs that he provides is very helpful.

When revising my essay, I try to take what my peers have said into consideration when we workshop. Their notes and suggestions in the margin help a lot when i sit down to fix my paper.
