Especially this year, as I really wanted a break from the unusually cold weather we are having in North Carolina. I took this as a sign that the birding gods would favor me on this trip. Forsyth Audubon Spring Trip 2015 Virginia Highlands. July 27, 2015 by Shelley Rutkin. My walkie-talkie squeaked out Mourning Warbler on the left! Most of us got to see the beautiful male Mourning Warbler a rare gem of the east. For some it was like putting a puzzle together in order to see the entire bird first a peek at the gray head, then a look at the black breast patch, then a splash of yellow bellyput it all together and you have a life bird!
