I was born in 1940 and raised in Berwyn, Illinois, a Chicago suburb about 10 miles southwest of the Chicago Loop. Berwyn is a nice community of modest homes. When I was growing up, most residents were of Eastern European backgrounds, with a high concentration of Czechs, and Poles, as well as a sizable number of Italians and Sicilians. My family and I loved living in Berwyn.
