Thoughts from where i am now. First quarter at OSU; wherein I write for far too long on things about which no one but myself cares. in the Near Eastern Languages and Cultures department at The Ohio State University and have enjoyed it thus far. This program is strongly focused on languages so I ended up taking German, Arabic and Hebrew courses this quarter and will be adding Syriac to that mix the next quarter and probably Latin in the Summer.
Oh, the comfort, the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person, having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but pouring them all out, just as they are, chaff and grain together, certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and with a breath of kindness blow the rest away. So we managed to kill one man after ten years. How many innocent people died in order to do that? Did your God smile upon the killing of women and children and thousands of our soldiers in our inept attempts to find one man who was basically nothing but a figurehead? This is an empty victory. Wednesday, October 22, 2008. The people of South Africa do not hide their past. They do not stoop their heads and sweep the tears under a rug. They are aware of the reality of it. The walls of the courtroom are brick. the very same bricks that built the previous courthouse. South Africa is using the suffering of her past, to create the triumph of her future.
