Synchronous versus asynchronous learning communities is what the readings were about this week. Synchronous learning communities have specific meeting dates and times. Asynchronous learning communities have deadlines but members are allowed to submit and respond at their convenience.

In the reading discussing assessment and rubric, I came across this interesting website created by the University of Wisconsin Stout and it provides generic rubrics for several different type of assessment. As a special education teacher, I need to be very structured and detailed with my directions and expectations for my assessments. Providing a rubric for the students provides the guidance. It was a good read.

The KNFB Reader is designed as a mobile reader for individuals with no sight. What is interesting is that it does not work very well at all. At a vision conference that I recently attended, the vendor made it out to be a great product. However, we have tried it with an individual who is blind and she did not find it accessible at all. For instance, how is someone without sight supposed to know when the paper is glossy or not? The drawb.
