into the great solitude

Saturday, 28 January 2017. This was on New Years Day at Badaguish but the snow only lasted a few hours. Two weekends ago we had a bit of a dump, most of the snow was blown off the summits and landed down in the valley. I had a good day XC skiing in Glenmore forest with friends, the next day it poured with rain and washed all the snow away but it was good while it lasted. Wednesday, 21 September 2016.

Mountain and Sea Scotland

Hillwalking and Sea Kayaking in Scotland. Sunday, 8 April 2018. Continuing on past the sunny beach where the Stonehaven paddlers were taking lunch, we passed behind a stack and back out towards the open sea through a tall and narrow geo. Sea kayaking with seakayakphoto.com

Imagine you are at the edge of the sea on a day when it is difficult to say where the land ends and the sea begins and where the sea ends and the sky begins. Sea kayaking lets you explore these and your own boundaries and broadens your horizons. Sea kayaking is the new mountaineering. Sunday, August 09, 2015. Caught between midges and reefs on Inchmarnock, a hard place. Mike and I rose early on Inchmarnock. Unfortunately so did the midges and we fled to the shore.

bothies on a bike A slow, meandering attempt to complete a round of all the MBA bothies in Scotland

A slow, meandering attempt to complete a round of all the MBA bothies in Scotland. Been a bit of a whirlwind week in which I have suddenly acquired a national profile. What can you do? The next day I spent over an hour on the phone, and the chat went amazingly well, and by mid afternoon I had also posed for some photos in the National Library of Scotland, trying to look bookish and learned. And the piece came out on Sunday, a centrefold spread no less. This entry was posted in day trips.

The site had the following in the homepage, "Jaunts and Adventures in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland and Further Afield." To this hill, which seems hard to believe. A cold start had us wrapped up early, but this hills northeastern ridge is served by a tiered path, which lends itself to a friendly pace and not too much overheating.
