Volunteering with RCPCH Global Links in Kiambu, Kenya. As I approach 4 months in Kenya, so much about living here is just normal now. Bartering at the market for my fruit and veg is routine, as is fending of the matatu touts at the stand, and navigating the melee of busses, cars, potholes, people and boda bodas as I walk to the shops.

The site had the following in the homepage, "Final teaching session, with some mzungu goodbye cakes." I noticed that the web site stated " Goodbyes with Sister Prossy and the hospital team." They also stated " A visit to Kasambira Preparatory School. Farewell to Fred and Prossy, Sister Prossy, and my lovely home. A crested crane the national bird of Uganda- and the lesser spotted three horned chameleon. Which brings great amusement to my Ugandan friends. Resuscitation training led by Sister Prossy. Or the oral rehydration solution?."

Ndilemba kalata Daves thoughts as Team Poffley-Hettle work in Zambia

I write at our chitenge covered table, at the end of a hospital day filled with laughter and the first goodbye.

Joy in the Journey Tales of Liverpool beyond

Tales of Liverpool and beyond. Dear Friends, My writing has been somewhat neglected in recent months which can only reflect how busy they have been, and with every day so full and rich it is hard to know where to begin. With three weeks until I leave Uganda, I thought I better write at least one more time.

So it turns out not even a blog can encourage my communication skills when travelling! Apologies for this coming almost 6 weeks into my time here in Tanzania. Reaching half way into our research project and about to set off on a cheeky quick trip back to Glasgow to see my best friend get married, has finally spurred me onto share a little about what we have been up to here! It is di.

tea and travels Adventures as I step out to live and work in Uganda for five months

Adventures as I step out to live and work in Uganda for five months. I spent a fantastic three months doing a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene at Liverpool to learn more about working in a resource-poor setting before going away. We had the privilege of being taught by some amazing lecturers and learning more about worms than I ever knew was possible. By the end of it we had a bizarre fascination with looking at stool samples down a microscope! Leave a Reply Cancel reply.
