Wildlife Fire-recovery Project- Flowerdale and Strath Creek. I identified the insect pictured left as a praying mantis, because of the barbed front legs and the way they were held. At least I got the insect bit right. It is in fact a Mantis Fly. Curiously it is neither a mantis nor is it a fly. It is a type of lacewing, also known as a Mantid Lacewing. Obviously in the identification process I even got the insect family wrong.
Caring for the environment in the Strath and King Parrot Creek valleys. Focus on Flora and Fungi. Pioneer Reserve, Strath Creek. Upper King Parrot Creek Road scenic drive. Moores Road Reserve, Flowerdale. All we need is a Zebra crossing. Site of zebra crossing? The nagging question in my mind.

A foreigner to these parts but beautiful none the less. And for the fungi, appearing at the same time and in the same place as last year is the Spectacular Rustgill.
