Grape pruning this week and we concentrated on two techniques that are relevant to this area. We began with cane pruning. This involves choosing a new fruiting cane to replace last years, and also a 2nd cane that will be spurred to be the cane used the year after. The cut is made and old wood removed before tying down the new cane onto the fruiting wire. Plants are bought in May and will continue to produce for 3 ye.
