She has released seven albums since coming to America, most of which have been produced by her husband Bill Lasswell.

Another piece of art out of the non-western section really caught my attention. This time it is a sculpture out of the africa section. Going trough the non western links and websites did one picture especially catch my attention. It is a painting by the japanese artist Katsushina Hokusai called.

In a personal note, I liked this painting as it took a radically different take from set art scenes without being too strange that nothing could be gleaned. Additionally, bright colors that were used in the painting and I enjoyed the amount of life it brought. Finally, the depiction of modern objects was rather different which is what drew me to the painting in the first place.

Asymp; Leave a comment. For my second Non-Western piece I choose. The Weight of Being a Minority Role Model. The painting is part of an exhibit that was created in 2002 for the Visual Museum of Contemporary African Art in New York City. The piece was created in his home of Cape Town, South Africa.

It is made from a 55-gallon drum oil barrel with a hand crafted concave top which creates the musical notes. I chose this musical style because I love music. I find it fascinating how people can turn everyday items into musical instruments. A person I know is in a local Steel Drum band.
