I received an email Thursday informing me that my Uncle Paul was in a convalescent center due to an infection after a fall he had. He was having trouble breathing and was extremely tired. He passed away in his sleep surrounded by family. 12 Months, 12 Things. The first day of the rest of my life.

I complete my 25 minute walk to school through the village with other students. I prepare the classroom and greet students. During the school year, I stay aft.

We went to The Sycamore, a bar built next to a Sycamore tree, and had a few Banks beers. The music was Guyanese, ear splittingly loud and drowning out conversation, the sun was hot and the drinks were cold. A perfect South American afternoon. Monday, June 29, 2015.
