Today was the first of a week full of forecast freezing weather and snow. It was a stunning, sunny, but cold day. East Copse on Wanstead Flats. Despite the cold, Spring seemed to be in the air for the Canada Goose. As always with mating anatidae, it was a typically scrappy affair. That was until I found my own flock! Passed over and this t.

Gnomes Birding Diary

Thursday, 22 February 2018. Another amalgamation of my Pendeen Birding. Posts from a half-term trip down to the far South West. Whereas the Siskins were much more obliging. 12th February, Pendeen, Newlyn and Mousehole. Not the rare thrush of my dreams today. You looking at me? A thuggish Great Black-backed. A rubbish video-grab of the juv. 15th February, Newlyn and Hayle.

The Cowboy Birder

Smoother than a Rattlesnakes under-belly! Bird Observatories of Britain and Ireland. Sunday, 2 August 2015. Little Owl - Once in a Blue Moon. Wanstead Birding

Usually skulky birds here on patch, except when they are singing, today one braved me crawling towards it on my knees. No sign of any flycatchers though, but that could be down to crawling on my knees too much. Plenty of Willow Warbler though frequenting the boggy bit of the SSSI. Tomorrow the weather looks absolutely crap. Brilliant! Wednesday, August 12, 2015. That news even brought Bob out of his house.

Borderlands Birding. and beyond

Tuesday, 10 January 2017. A nice fly by of Barnacle Geese off Bowness-on-Solway against a blue sky . Some different age birds in the flock with the bird on the left showing upper wing coverts having little contrast - so ageing it as a juvenile. While the right hand side bird - an adult - shows a much crisper pattern with clear white tips and narrow black bands on the wing coverts . This lovely adult male is showing quite a black head for su.

The site had the following in the homepage, "Bird news and photos from Walthamstow Marshes and Reservoirs, Gulls on the Thames and birding further afield." I noticed that the web site stated " Cyprus Part two The Gulls! Folder on my laptop." They also stated " Black heads were in good numbers at Ladys Mile and scanning through them revealed a few Slender billed gulls. The Second winter birds were more contrasy and, like many eastern taxa often moult many scaps and wing coverts in this age resembling older birds. Adults were very nice too. Adults were mainly fly-bys or birds present in the few areas of M."
