Having photographed a ruined, traditionally built Fuerteventuran village at La Florida. These are simple dwellings with dirt floors but with no need for heating given a very temperate climate all year round, I found the idea of moving into one of these simple houses very attractive. Certainly no showers in the older properties. I wonder how they managed these particular needs.

Leaving Port Augusta for Coober Pedy, still a few flurries of rain but the landscape was changing to the dry open red soils we love. From 50 km outside Coober Pedy we saw the mullock heaps left by the opal miners. We set up behind the homestead, there was a simple corrugated iron shed with hot showers and toilets and a big fir.
