I have often been frustrated with assessments that seem to focus on things other than the stated learning outcomes. I commiserate with students who feel that multiple choice questions seem designed to test their ability to read and not their grasp of an accounting concept. On the other hand a well designed multiple choice question can really get at the core understanding."
