We climbed out of the ocean, squirmed up the frowning cliffs and jumped into the bushes while big-breasted housewives tried to menace us with red lip-stick botox scowls. With heavy hearts we laughed in packs of threes and fours trying to light the desert on fire before our boredom could stifle us. We crept at the feet of Titans and squeezed our way through dusted mountains and cried under granite boulders while the cold sun crept across a pastel sky.

I tried to capture my impression of that era in the painting. Kathy Fitzpatrick reflected in Maniwa Creek. An overhead view of palm trees.

You are bound to this earth only by the strength you have to rise above it. At least at first screening. And sat on a crucifix. Trying to buckle my shoe. And there was a universe out there. They were all in the library. It was full of stones.

In a time of social media and sharing of everything, this mindset is on full display whenever someone makes a ridiculous post. Luckily, such posts are not difficult to find in the immediate aftermath of the gay marriage ruling.
