Robert was married to Kitty Marriott. On the 12th of October 1889 at the Parish Church in Sutton in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire. Kitty was born on the 17th of December 1868 in Sutton in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire. Her mother was Harriott Marriott.

Sherds of pottery found in a garden in Castleton have been identified as part of a medieval splash glazed vessel of a type last made at the end of the 13th Century.
