Sam Astley is the frontman of genre confused rockabilly prog folk klezmer five piece Penny Orchids. He also plays guitar, occasional drums and keyboards with Evi Vine, and guitar with Naevus. He has also written and recorded music for film, including the soundtrack and sound design for the short film Back Issue which won second place in the Sci-Fi London 48 hour film challenge 2014.
