Staff and students should be informed about the advantages of using a car-pooling system through leaflets, pamphlets, posters or publications in newspapers. A car-pooling system should be set up and staff and students encouraged to use it.
The following is a summary of a report done by Zulika and Norkhadijah of Universiti Brunei Darussalam. The report explores the favoured mode of transport among university community, environmental concerns and the state of public transport among other issues. Public transport service is available, but university community prefer to use their own personal vehicle. There is very little evidence of carpooling.
Majority of UBD students travel individually by car which results in a high number of cars in UBD. This also results in high carbon emission, traffic congestion and inadequate parking spaces. A lot of time and fuel is wasted in finding parking spaces. Desperate drivers might even park in unauthorized or unsafe areas or simply block another car.
