Wednesday, March 02, 2005. Stand up and be counted! That is what education minister Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam wants to tell all the youths out there. Speaking at the Singapore Media and Youth Conference held at Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Mr Tharman stressed the importance of having to engage youths to be more interested and participative in issues regarding the nation. He citied the UK, Australia and Canada as some examples where youths are taking a nonchalant approach towards politics.
