Light, warmth, protection, pray; just a few things a simple candle can stand for. Night terrors were a common occurrence during my childhood slumbers until about the age of 11 or so. A night light helped, just as candles still do, protect me from my own thoughts, warm my soul, and light the way to hope for a clear night without screams.

For my cultural artifact, I chose a clock. I believe a clock or the concept of time represents the majority of our culture. People are overwhelmed with the limitations of time or feel they have too much to do in a small amount of time.
