News today is influenced by public relations firms or ad agencies. How can a station remain objective when they are given video news releases to pass off to viewers? VNRs are short clips of marketing propaganda produced in the style of real news. The releases feature paid experts that pose as fake reporters who pitch products during their packages. It is easy to blame this on the economy but lazy and dishonest journalism is never acceptable.

Over the course of this semester, more or less near the end of it, my Public Affairs Reporting class has been reading True Enough by Farhad Manjoo. The book discusses our current society and what people tend to believe as opposed to what is factual and objective news.
