Stokes County, North Carolina. The county was formed in 1789 from Surry County. It was named for John Stokes. One of the main features in the county is Hanging Rock State Park. Was formed primarily from blocks of land donated in 1936 and conatains 7040 acres today. Many of the facilities in the park were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps.
