The View from the Outside. All in all, these experiences from outside teaching leave me with many questions moving forward. Was the emotional struggle I had discussing gangs simply a product of my own privilege not having grown up with gang culture? Should I try to put aside the emotions that surround topics such as gangs, violence, and racism? In general, how do I incorporate my real-life experiences into my academic work? .
