When I first started this blog, I was an unemployed costumer attempting to create period gowns and costumes with very limited means. Although now employed, I still try to be as thrifty as possible. I hope you enjoy my journey into the land of inexpensive costuming and short articles.

Monday, December 19, 2016. A round gown with Vandyke scollops. That was common in the works of the 17th century Dutch artist, Anthony Van Dyke. This style of trim seemed to be quite popular. This past summer, I found myself in need of a new gown to wear to the Gala at Costume College, so I decided to make a new silk round gown and matching sleeveless spencer with Vandyke scollops. I based the construction of my dress on this Italian round gown and spencer. The Vandyke trim is quite. The skirts are so ful.
The fabric is a printed silk taffeta from my stash. I also made a matching reticule, with my leftover fabric and lining.
