This was a New War. It has a new scale of reference. Vast, vicious and unforgiving. Death for millions will be anonymous. Machine gun arbitrary and indiscriminate. Shelled and shocked, barraged and buried. No whole corpse to recognise as human. No remains to mourn and grieve. Just rich blood and bone for Poppies. Landscape resculpted to barest bone. Every old tree and young bush uprooted.

But to dream of flesh while mine is sagging what a sweet delight and what twisted perfection in my mind! From Cold To Fire. A spark of gold so I remember. The curls around your smiling eyes. The constant search, the hidden lies. A promise made so hard to keep. When years were spent in life asleep. My heart remains a burning ember. And blue reminds me of clear skies. With coldest winter touching your face. My aching arms waiting to embrace. A dream, a want I left behind.

I can hear a familiar tongue. In words escaping your mind. A distant memory of child dreams. Left forgotten in sand castles. I was then foolish and young. Always looking for the extremes.
