LUNION, Société philanthropique suisse a été fondée en 1843 par deux jeunes gens dans le canton de Berne, à Sonvilier, en Erguël, dans le vallon de Saint-Imier. Leur but fut dapprendre à leurs sociétaires le Savoir être. Aujourdhui lUnion est une société regroupant des hommes de toute condition. Sur le plan légal elle est une association selon les art. 60 ss du Code civil suisse. Elle est neutre sur les plans politique et confessionnel. Tout citoyen peut devenir membre de lUNION.
