This website is dedicated primarily to the work of two wildlife conservation groups in Clevedon, North Somerset, both of which run a regular programme of practical volunteer work throughout the year. Our volunteers are of all ages and abilities, some coming along for the fresh air and exercise, some to gain useful work experience, others to work alongside nature and give back something to the place they love.

The story of the Clevedon Violet. In Victorian times violets were very popular with ladies to adorn their hair and dresses, and the perfume was widely used. Images of violets were frequently seen on china, postcards and greeting cards and linen.

The natural history of a Somerset orchard. Winning the bramble and nettle wars. Now that the volunteers have made such a magnificent job of clearing the bramble, the grasses have started to grow again and are beginning to smother the nettles. It was nice to see children playing and a family picnic going on. This would hardly have been possible last year ago without getting badly stung or scratched. Curled Dock, Rumex crispus.
