One night in July, a smothering sadness overcame me. All I knew this one night in July was that if I wanted to have a shot against my grief, I needed to move. I had to do something to kill my despondency before it got the best of me. I had to fight back. I made a beeline for the overpass leading to my university, strutting with a rushed gait.
Learning that she had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer late last year was a shock for me. Doctors gave her less than a year to live, but a part of me never believed it.
