Adventuresinbeelands Blog My beekeeping bumbles

The queen who went in the wrong place. Today I found a mystery awaiting me at the allotment. Ever seen this many bees. And bees with pollen disappearing within their midst? Usually you might get maybe a couple of bees wandering around under the floor. I had a look through the hive to see if that might help solve the mystery. All looked well at the entrance, the bees were enjoying the sunshine after a pretty miserable and rainy week.

Bees, bugs, butterflies and flowers. Above you can see photos of Garden bumblebee. Male falling asleep on a spike of lavander flower. I took the photograph in the evening, just as sunset was over and the temperature was goind down. The bumble bees showed signs of having difficulty to move and setteled on the flowers of a border of lavender for the night.

Beelievable To bee or not to bee the trials and tribulations of being a beekeeper.

You may not realize it, but bees need water too. They will seek out water sources close to their hive. They use water to cool the hive on hot days, to dilute honey and to help with digestion and metabolizing their food. Luckily, I have a pond with a waterfall in my front yard that the bees congregate to during the day. Bees drinking water along the edge of my pond.

Back Yard Biology

A Peruvian woman gets ready to prepare fresh guinea pig for her guests us! After humanely euthanizing the animal, she removes the hair and the guts, then places it in the frying pan on her wood-fired stove to cook. Divided among about 16 people, there is not much more than a mouthful of prepared guinea pig to taste, but it proves to be quite mild just like chicken! Wild guinea pig from lake Titicaca.
