Blog 8; The Gilded Lions. Asymp; Leave a comment. The art I chose is an image of Gilded Lions that are located in the Forbidden City. Thousands of craftsman and laborers worked on the city between1406 and 1420. The Forbidden City including this pair of art pieces were not complete until after 1700. I have always loved lions, but the Chinese inspire a dragon-like beast in the pieces created during the Ming Dynasty.

I was attracted to this piece because I am a geology student and the aspect of weaving copper and aluminum together is amazing to me. The glossy finish made of bark and iron slag mixture is my favorite aspect of this work. Notice the copper rectangles that run somewhat perpendicular to the yellow horizontal lines this technique gives the work true definition.
