In this part of the book, I think we learn a lot about the relationship between Rufus and Dana. I think coming into this part of the book I felt like I really liked Rufus as a person. Funny the way it is, if you think about it. In the novel, as you have tried to beat into our heads, Butler is obviously trying to get readers to notice her not so subtle themes and images. Her redundancy is something that I think effects us as readers.
