This method uses sight words. The child is shown a flash card with a word on it. The teacher will pronounce it and the student will say it. The words start out as a small set of words and slowly expanded into harder sets. Whole word helps to learn words that are irregular. It is argued that children do not get the vocabulary or meanings of words when they learn words through this method.

Before I started this graduate program I was very interested in the mind of children. How they learn to read, how they develop reading disabilities, why they have disabilities, and how to treat or help students with disabilities? Everyone says something completely different. Tuesday, November 30, 2010. During our class meetings and readings for the Psychological Bases of Reading course, we have discussed and broken down the processes of reading. The brain is stimulated in many ways during reading and by reading that we never are even conscious of. The process of reading manipulates many unconscious variables to simply read a passage. The following is a summary of those findings that were studied this semester. Our discussion then turned to cor.
Focuses on language experiences of the child. The child dictates a story and they are taught to read the words from their story. Instruction is learning individual words usually emphasizes memorizing whole words with some phonics drills added in later.
