This method uses sight words. The child is shown a flash card with a word on it. The teacher will pronounce it and the student will say it. The words start out as a small set of words and slowly expanded into harder sets. Whole word helps to learn words that are irregular. It is argued that children do not get the vocabulary or meanings of words when they learn words through this method.
