The first though I have had at the beginning of my internship was the level of reading and writing that my Kindergarten students were at. I was shocked at their ability to sound out words and recognize beginning and ending consonants in text to decode difficult words. I did not know that Kindergarteners were expected to read and write at the level that these children were at.

Our teacher was very interactive with the students and did picture walks through all of the new books that the class read together. She utilized choral, echo, and partner reading. She even used a CD player with a few stories on disc that she would put on for the class as a whole and they would follow along in their books. 1 What are the three dimensions of fluency? Thomas class I have learned many things in regards to literacy and language arts. Each Monday when the students were introduced to their new spelling list they always did a word sort. Thomas always incorporated a hands-on element to this sort by having it on the SmartBoard, which the students thoroughly enjoyed! These word sorts seemed to help students get better acquainted with the words and their pronunciation.
