It made me see that not all students in your class room are going to be on the same level. In the third grade class, half of the class was reading. And the other half was reading.
Another thing I really liked about the classroom I was in was that the reading instruction time was two and a half hours long. This gave the teacher plenty of time to do small group instruction and help struggling students one on one. I was unsure of what to expect going into this internship, but am now more excited than I have ever been about my future teaching career! I spent one hour and fifty minutes each day in the language arts class with my students. While I was there the students were finishing up a novel study. The metaphor of fluency being a bridge between decoding and comprehension shows that these two skills are related to each other. One is necessary to understand the other because if you cannot decode than you with not comprehend and vice versa.
